"Fieres" by Jendra Berri

ABOUT THE BOOK

Fieres

Everyone always said Grace was weird. An albino abandoned at birth, anti-social, and selectively intelligent, she’s never had a friend. Now at 23, she lives alone and quietly runs a dojo in Toronto. But beneath her stony exterior, somehow she’s always known that something— or someone— was coming for her.

The night she meets the quirky Tomiko, everything changes. As they meet three more women, (Julia, Hope and Paetra), one by one they awaken and uncover memories of Fieres, a breathtaking sentient planet. Not only does it link them together, its free existence hangs in the balance and needs their help.

Grace must now face the truth: about herself, her storied past, who— and what— she really is, and the dangerous risk she poses to them all. Not returning to Fieres is not an option. If they fail to stop the threat, Earth will meet the same terrible fate.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jendra Berri is a Canadian author, born and raised in Kingston Ontario, and now living with her husband and son in Toronto.

A former art student turned journalism grad, amateur model maker, sometimes baker, chronic cat lady, and occasional crocheter, her primary love is, and has always been, the written word. Her favourite theme is human nature, wrapped in a package of fantasy, science fiction or a mix of both.

Fieres is her debut novel.

"Pariah's Moon" and "Pariah's War" by Ian Thomas Healy

"Pariah's Moon" and "Pariah's War" are the first two books of Ian Thomas Healy's "The Pariah of Verigo" series.

Pariah's Moon

Branded on his face and exiled following his forbidden affair with the Princess of Aelfland, Elven soldier Giele seeks redemption on the frontier across the ocean, but even fleeing half a world away isn’t far enough to escape the troubles that follow a marked man.

Pariah's War

Giele Pariah settles among the Horks and prepares to become a father, but the former soldier knows peace can only last so long. A young Hork from a distant tribe reaches out to Giele for help. A coal mine has poisoned their water and brought them to the brink of starvation and Giele is the only Elf who can find common ground between Elves and Horks.

She's got to prepare a fantastic dish for a royal wedding, using ingredients she's never heard of, that she'll have to travel the breadth of the world to find. "How to Avoid Death on a Daily Basis" by V. Moody

From Book 1:

What if you really were transported to a fantasy world and expected to kill monsters to survive? No special abilities, no OP weapons, no status screen to boost your stats and no cheat mode. Never mind finding the dragon’s treasure or defeating the Demon Lord, you only need to worry about one thing—how to stay alive.

A group of teenagers wake up in a strange, fantastical land with creatures from myth and legend. They are given archaic weapons they don't know how to use and told to do their best.

Convinced it has to be some kind of virtual reality RPG, all the people summoned form parties and set off on their adventures, leaving behind the people nobody wants in their group.

Story of my life, thinks Colin.

'How To Avoid Death On A Daily Basis' is a dark, hilarious fantasy series with 7 volumes.

It looks like a game. It feels like a game. It isn't a game.
