"Sparkle" by Arin Lee Kambitsis

Sparkle:

Something evil is hidden in the woods outside of the beautiful town of Sparkle, PA, the kind of thing Peter and Alyssa Huffy, newly arrived in town, do not believe in. Little do they know that something is happening in Sparkle, something that hasn’t occurred on Earth since the destruction of Camelot a millennium and a half before, and the forces of good and evil are going to collide.

Twelve-year-old Derek Windward is the sole keeper of Sparkle’s oldest secret. He is the only one who has witnessed the evil hiding in the darkest part of the forest, and how terrifying the power it wields truly is. It is the Bunyine - a giant, tormented creature born eight-thousand years ago in the Garden of Eden and harboring an ancient grudge for the betrayal of its masters Adam and Eve. One morning, Derek receives a cryptic message carved into a tree. A message from the beast itself. Though what the Bunyine wants is unclear, what it would do to get it is unthinkable.

Sparkle brings together the charm and wonder of fantasy and the thrills of horror, creating a unique experience for readers of both genres, and all ages.

"The Wings of Ashtaroth" by Steve Hugh Westenra

The Wings of Ashtaroth:

The great city of Qemassen is at a crossroads. A powerful empire from beyond the ocean threatens to reignite a centuries-old feud. A slave rebellion brews in the tangled labyrinth of tunnels beneath the city streets. And Crown Prince Ashtaroth, the city's supposed saviour, is considered unfit to rule even by those closest to him.

When the high priest burns one of the royal children alive as a desperate offering to the city's absentee gods, it destroys the fragile peace within Qemassen's scheming first family. Seeking revenge for the death of her child, Ashtaroth's mother calls on a powerful demon named Lilit.

But Lilit cannot be trusted. Her cruel machinations pit brother against sister and father against daughter, laying waste to Ashtaroth's family. Then Lilit approaches Ashtaroth with a demonic pact of his own-one that could save his people and his home. But between war from without and a revolution erupting within, even a demon may not be enough to keep Qemassen standing.

Set in a secondary world based on the conflict between Ancient Carthage and Rome, The Wings of Ashtaroth is a sprawling, multi-POV epic fantasy, full of queerness, political intrigue, and demons.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Steve Hugh Westenra is a trans author of fantasy, science fiction, and horror (basically, if it’s weird he writes it).

He grew up on the eldritch shores of Newfoundland, Canada, and currently lives and works in (the slightly less eldritch) Montreal. He holds advanced degrees in Russian Literature, Medieval Studies, and Religious Studies. His current academic work focuses on marginalized reclamations of monstrous figures. He teaches the History of Satan and Religion and its Monsters.

"The Girl Who Sings to Dragons" by Luke Courtney

Aiden Russ, heir to Selene-Morna, struggles to master his inner wolf, haunted by his past failures. Now he must overcome his doubts to become a desperate people's champion.

The first steps to fulfil the prophecy of the Winged Wolf must be taken...

"Elves of Vacari" by T. A. McEvoy

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

She has been passionate about writing since high school and has recently embarked on a journey of self-publishing fantasy fiction novels. Her debut work, 'The Wicked Phoenix,' marked the beginning of 'The Elves of Vacari' series, which is now complete and published.

In addition to her writing pursuits, Theresa holds an associate degree in paralegal studies and has gained over five years of experience working in a law firm in Texas. Since relocating to South Carolina, she has dedicated her time to being a caregiver for her mother. Beyond the world of words, Theresa finds creative expression through painting and enjoys immersing herself in the world of video games.

ELVES OF VACARI, BOOKS I to III

Book I - The Wicked Phoenix

In the enchanting realm of Vacari, where humans and elves coexist harmoniously amid the lush landscapes of Goldmoor, an ominous shadow looms. Phoenix Shadowwalker, a warlock of unparalleled darkness, hungers for dominion over the majestic city of Goldmoor, threatening to shatter the tranquility that the reigning King and Queen have worked tirelessly to maintain.

But hope flickers in the hearts of two unlikely champions—Ong, a relentless warrior with an indomitable spirit, and Lady Keisha, whose resolve matches her unwavering determination. Together, they embark on a perilous quest: to unite the disparate races of humans and elves, forging an alliance strong enough to thwart Phoenix's insidious designs.

Yet, their mission takes an even more treacherous turn. To save Vacari from the clutches of darkness, they must call upon the ancient and powerful dragons, who have been absent from the realm for centuries. These mythical beings hold the key to Vacari's salvation.

As destinies intertwine, a tale of valor, unity, and relentless hope unfolds. Will Ong and Keisha's determination be enough to stave off the encroaching shadows, or will Vacari's destiny be forever altered by the wicked Phoenix's malevolence? Only time will reveal the true depths of their courage in this realm of magic and intrigue."

Book II - Shadows Unveiled

In the aftermath of their hard-fought victory, the realm of Vacari thought darkness had been banished forever. Yet, the sinister warlock Phoenix Shadowwalker, believed to be defeated, secretly resurfaces, his power grown to unimaginable heights during his exile. Whispers of his newfound strength circulate, leaving the realm trembling in fear.

Fueled by a burning desire for revenge, Phoenix's malevolent intentions focus on two figures: Ong, the valiant warrior, and Lady Keisha, whose resilience once thwarted his dark ambitions. Blinded by rage and consumed by vengeance, he orchestrates a masterful plan to ensnare them in his clutches.

In a race against time, Ong, Keisha, and their allies must unravel the mysteries surrounding Phoenix's newfound power while confronting their pasts and insecurities. As the clock ticks down, alliances are forged, and battles are fought both on the battlefield and within themselves. Vacari's fate teeters on the edge, and its defenders must rise once more to protect the realm they hold dear.

"Shadows Unveiled" is a gripping fantasy tale of vengeance, redemption, and the enduring strength of unity in the face of darkness. Will Vacari survive this relentless onslaught, or will its light be extinguished forever.

Book III - Vacari's Resurgence: Healing Bonds

In the heart of Vacari, where shadows once wove a sinister ballet, the realm embarks on a subtle metamorphosis. Amidst the ruins of once-majestic cities, Keisha, Ong, and Pumpkin navigate the remnants of a bygone era, where Vacari itself undergoes transformation. Nature's power permeates the land, transforming despair into beauty as solitary flowers push through grief-stricken stone.

Vacari's rivers flow with renewed clarity,   singing a lullaby of redemption. In the sacred realm of E'vahona, Keisha and her companions unite with ancient powers, forging an ethereal alliance between elemental forces and the spirits who once sought solace in Vacari's sanctuary. As dawn's first rays kiss the horizon, a soft melody of rebirth echoes through Vacari.

Keisha embarks on a journey of healing, her scars mirroring the realm's wounds. The trio stands on the precipice of resurgence, inhaling deeply as Vacari promises a new day. Will they uncover the secrets needed to restore Vacari to its former glory, or will darkness threaten to reclaim the realm once more?

"Tales of Another World" by Jeffrey J. Hoy

Morauk, a young man of the Warrior class, accompanies Rastar, a cantankerous and wizened Teacher, or wizard, on a quest to find and destroy the Key of Darkness, one of four magickal devices thought destroyed a thousand years earlier. A great battle between fire and darkness—and two great armies—ensues. Then they encounter Cahnya, a young, mind-reading woman who has been awaiting Morauk all her life. This unforeseen complication does not bode well for Rastar’s mission.

TALES OF ANOTHER WORLD – BOOK TWO

Rastar, Morauk, and Cahnya continue their journey across the mysterious northern continent as the presence of the young woman increases the friction between Warrior and his Teacher. Then comes the discovery of the Fire Gods, grotesque creatures who not only control the Key of Fire, but ride on the backs of dragons! Can the Teacher cobble together enough warring clans of the scattered Lost Tribes to create a unified fighting force to defeat the toad-like ogres? And almost as important, what will their newfound dark-skinned allies think of a white witch who can read their thoughts?

TALES OF ANOTHER WORLD – BOOK THREE

After Rastar is abducted by a massive dragon, Morauk, now called the Blind Sage, and Cahnya, the White Savant, must decide where their path leads them. Do they stay and try to change the violent ways of the Lost Tribes? Or do they resume the Teacher’s mission to seek out and destroy any remaining Keys? Rumors of the Key of Water point them to the far, frozen north. They take only a handful of clansmen with them, but what chance do the two and their small band have against a cold, bitter, dangerous world? And what chance does either have of ever seeing Rastar or their homeland again?

Call for Submissions to Online Fantasy Bookstore

Literary magazines (eg. Peasant Magazine) sometimes do a "Call for Submissions" in which they are looking for authors to submit their short stories, flash fiction, novellas and sometimes even pulp fiction length novels for publication in their magazine/journal.

In the case of "Arcane Tomes", which is more of a website pretending to be a bookstore (or is it a bookstore which links to other websites for purchasing options?), we are looking for indie fantasy authors to submit their books so that the authors of those books can then get free advertising in our online bookstore (of sorts).

We are looking for authors who write in all branches and subgenres of fantasy, including but not limited to:

We haven't received any Romantasy or Spicy Fantasy submissions yet, but we will. Those two subgenres are very popular. Likewise we are also looking for Science Fantasy submissions, Horror Fantasy, Grimdark Fantasy, etc. If it is a subgenre that has Fantasy in the name, we want it listed here.

The only real issue is that we only accept submissions from Indie Fantasy Authors. Traditional published authors who already have their books in brick-and-mortar bookstores need not apply.

Our goal is to provide an easy way for readers to browse their favourite subgenres and easily connect with indie authors that they've never heard of before.

What You Get

Submitting your book(s) nets you:

  • Your book(s) gets listed on our Bookshelf.
  • One free post in our Updates section.
  • Your book(s) will be listed in various subgenre categories, and in the future additional bookshelves dedicated to specific subgenres of fantasy.

And you can always submit more books later. You don't have to submit all your books at once. In fact, there are benefits to only submitting 1 to 3 books at a time, because you will get multiple posts in the updates section if you spread them out a bit.

How to Submit

Email peasantmagazine@gmail.com with the following:

  • Description(s) of your book(s).
  • About the Author biography.
  • Low resolution images of your book covers, preferably 200 pixels in width.

That's it. We will take care of the rest and notify you when your book has been added to our Bookshelf section.

Marketing Notes

ArcaneTomes.org was registered on August 8th and five days later it is already placing 28th place on a Google search for the keywords arcane tomes. Obviously we can do better than that, which is why we will be unleashing our volunteer SEO marketing guru to help boost the website and asking authors to help promote ArcaneTomes.org on social media, blogs, etc.

We also want ArcaneTomes.org to rank for the keywords online fantasy bookstore and online fantasy bookshop. We're not in the top 100 for those keywords yet, but that is a long term goal. There's a reason we put those keywords in the title.

We will be periodically checking the rankings for those keywords to see how well the marketing is going. Every little bit helps.

Updates:

August 14th - ArcaneTomes.org is now ranking 25th place for the key words arcane tomes. Up 3 places from a day earlier.

August 21st - ArcaneTomes.org is now ranking 20th place for the key words arcane tomes. Up 5 places from a week earlier.

August 28th - ArcaneTomes.org is now ranking 18th place for the key words arcane tomes. Up 2 places from a week earlier. (Note: Exact ranking may vary upon the individual. We also checked on a cellphone, and ArcaneTomes.org placed 16th for the same keywords, thus showing there is sometimes a rankings discrepancy based upon the user.)

Additional Notes:

August 28th - We have decided to add some extra target key words.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Roger Sandri writes his first drafts by pencil and paper in beautiful southern New England because too much screen time strains his eyes, unless he’s procrastinating on Instagram as @roger_sandri_wordslinger. He does warehouse work by day and writes (sometimes) by night. Feel free to shoot him a DM on his page and quote his muse Lorraine by saying, “Write faster, damnit,” to motivate the lazy bugger.

Roger would rather read fantasy or horror novels, watch hockey, play Diablo II for the ninetieth time, or build model airplanes than have his picture taken for an author bio. Some theorize he may be part-Sasquatch, but honestly he doesn’t want to scare readers with his appearance—only his writing. If one should encounter him in the wild, approach slowly and bring up the aforementioned subjects.

Otherwise, he generally speaks an odd assortment of grunts and is attempting to learn German as part of his desire to see Austria.

He has two feline writing supervisors, a longhair tortie named Camilla and a black shorthair named Bella Lugosi. The many tales Roger plans to write all blend in elements of horror, no matter the main genre, so the cats’ diligence in ensuring their owner’s pencil doesn’t create too many character deaths is hopefully appreciated by you, dear reader.

The Adventures of Wrathgar (TAOW)

The Adventures of Wrathgar (TAOW) is a massive series of novels (and 1 novella) by heroic fantasy author Charles Moffat. The series follows the adventures and escapades of barbarian archer Wrathgar and his friends/lovers/allies.

The series includes:

  • The Assassin's Trail
  • The Blizzard's Daughter
  • The Coven's Wolves
  • The Demon's Sacrifice
  • The Exorcist's Dagger
  • The Frost Giant's Tomb

Plus the novella "The Sunken Castle", which takes place between books 1 and 2.

As you may have guessed, Moffat's stated goal is to write a series of 26 novels (A to Z effectively), which will chronicle the story of Wrathgar from his teen years into old age. The word count of the finished 26 book series will easily exceed that of other large series like The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and dwarf smaller series like ASOIAF by George R. R. Martin.

The series features realistic portrayals of friendships and romantic relationships, and similar realism when it comes to battle, swordplay, archery, and world building. Charles Moffat, an archery instructor who prides himself on perfectionism, researches his topics heavily before writing them for the sake of realism, and his experience teaching archery for 15+ years is indicative of his knowledge on the subject matter.

Like GRRM however, Moffat has a nasty habit of killing characters. So be careful which characters you get attached to, because they could die in a later book.

Learn more about Charles Moffat at fiction.charlesmoffat.com and browse his books at amazon.com/author/moffat.
